Notheast of IranThe northeast region of IRAN has a long history in Persian carpets. This region produces one of the best quality carpets. MASHAD is known for its religious historical site (Sanctuary of Imam REZA). MASHAD (Mashhad), is the second largest city in Iran and one of the holiest cities in the Shia Muslim world. It is located 850 kilometres (530 mi) east of TEHRAN, at the center of the Razavi Khorasan Province close to the borders of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The carpets made in this city are famous for its design and pattern in being crowed with shapes of natural flowers. The next two famous cities in producing carpets are NEYSHAPOUR and Quchan.
